Stella Roberts is a pianist, composer and arranger studying in her final year at the Birmingham Conservatoire. 

 

Since attending the Conservatoire, she has received tuition from musicians such as Liam Noble, John Turville, John Taylor and Mike Williams.

 

Originally from the Peak District. Stella began her musical education at Chetham's School of Music, Manchester, where her first introduction to jazz was lessons from Les Chisnall. She then began to play in the Big Band led by Jim Muirhead and Steve Berry, which eventually led to her gaining a place on the Birmingham Conservatoire Jazz Course. 

 

An active composer, Stella runs her own ensembles including a trio, quartet and more recently a large ensemble named ‘Frida’ which combines the traditional jazz piano trio and a string quartet. The music is influenced by an eclectic mix of styles and genres from Bjork to the Bolero. Frida is releasing their debut album this summer. 

 

As well as performing regularly with her own projects, Stella is an in demand side-woman playing in a variety of bands around the UK, Soul Singer Monique Thomas' Band.

 

Stella Roberts is a UK based pianist working as a Composer, Band-leader and Side-woman. 

After graduating from the Jazz course at the Birmingham Conservatoire, Stella has formed her sextet where she continues to develop her compositional approach. The sextet have recently recorded their debut EP, Solace Suite.

As well as working on the sextet, Stella is involved with a five-piece band of "synths, strings, electronics and heavy beats" lead by composer Anna Palmer. The band have recently recorded and released their new EP 'ISM' and are currently leading a miniatures project with 10 different composers, of which Stella is one. Stella's miniature will be released at the end of June.
